Research and Advocacy

The Maryland CASH Campaign advocates for policies on the state and national level that protect and grow the financial security of Maryland residents. During the 2009 legislative session we followed bills on topics such as asset-building, credit, the Maryland Earned Income Credit (EIC), financial education, financial services, tax preparers, and other relevant topics. We are currently wrapping up the 2010 legislative session.

Examples of our work:

  • We advocated for the Maryland Individual Tax Preparers Act (SB 817) that now requires the licensing of paid tax preparers
  • We participated in a Day of Action with our trade association, the National Community Tax Coalition (NCTC), to advocate for funding for VITA programs
  • We compiled a polcy brief about the danger of Refund Anticipation Loans (RALs)
